Live Spelling Tests the Whole Class Takes Together
You send a word. Every child types it on their own screen, using an on-screen keyboard, and you watch the whole class answer on your seating plan as it happens. When you’re finished, you can download the results to your own computer.

Made by a Teacher, for Teachers
I’m Daniel Sear, a teacher. Mr Sear’s Spelling is my live spelling test tool, and access to it is provided by Sear Education, the same team behind Mr Sear’s MTC.
The idea is simple. You stay at the front and run the test one word at a time, and you can see straight away who has got each word, who is still typing and who might need a bit more help. Every child answers on their own screen, as themselves, with their own PIN.
Mr Sear’s Spelling is invite-only, for schools and educators. If you’d like to try it with your class, I’d love to hear from you.

A Live Spelling Test, Word by Word
You lead the test from your screen. Each child takes it on theirs.
You send a word
Type the word you want to test and send it to the class.
Children get ready
Each child’s screen shows a “Get Ready” waiting screen, then opens a typing screen with an on-screen keyboard.
They type and submit
Each child types their spelling on their own screen and submits it.
You see it live
Your seating plan shows every child’s status as it happens: waiting, typing, correct or incorrect.
When you’re finished: you end the test yourself. Before you do, you can download the results as an Excel file to your own computer.
Built for Real Classrooms
The things a teacher needs during a spelling test, and nothing extra to manage.
Your Whole Class at a Glance
Each child has their seat on your class seating plan, and each seat shows how they’re getting on with the current word.
An Optional Timer
Turn on a 10-second timer when you want a bit of pace, or leave it off.
Download the Results
Save the test’s results as an Excel file to your own computer. The live test information is cleared when you end or reset the test.

Frequently Asked
Who can use it?
Mr Sear’s Spelling is invite-only, for schools and educators. To ask for access, email info@mrsearmtc.uk.
Do I need a new account if I already use MTC?
No. You sign in with the same email address and password, and your classes and pupils are already there.
What information about children does it use?
A first name, their personal PIN, a display name such as “Star”, their seat on the seating plan, whether they’re in today, their reading choices, their seat design and tokens, and, only if the school adds them, pupil groups. No email addresses, surnames, addresses, photographs or dates of birth, no chat between children, and no advertising or tracking. The privacy page has the full detail.
Are spelling results kept?
Only while the test is running. The live test information is cleared when you end or reset the test, and Spelling doesn’t keep a long-term history of results. If you want to keep them, download the Excel file before you end the test.
What can a child see?
Children sign in with the class login and their own PIN, so they only enter as themselves. On their waiting and typing screens, a child sees only their own name.
How do children earn tokens?
By taking part. From 27 September 2026, finishing a spelling test with at least 30% of answers right counts as a session, alongside practising in Mr Sear’s MTC. Up to 2 sessions a day count across both apps, and every 8 counted sessions earn a token. Teachers can also award tokens or prizes.
Would you like to try it?
Mr Sear’s Spelling is invite-only. If your school would like access, or you just have a question, I’d love to hear from you.
